Moving to Australia was a big step, one that came with excitement and uncertainty. Leaving behind the familiar comforts of home and stepping into a new culture was daunting, but I knew it was a necessary step toward my goals. As a 26-year-old international student, I’ve had to juggle the demands of academic life, a part-time job, and the responsibility of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Amidst all this, one thing has become clear: focusing on my well-being has been the key to navigating this journey successfully.
When I first arrived, I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of change. The coursework was intense, the cultural differences were striking, and the pressure to succeed weighed heavily on me. It didn’t take long for the stress to build up, affecting not only my mental state but also my physical health. I found myself struggling to keep up, not just academically, but in every aspect of life.
That’s when I realized something had to change. I began to prioritize my well-being, not as an afterthought, but as the foundation for everything else. The first step was acknowledging that I needed balance. I started incorporating small habits into my daily routine—simple practices like mindful breathing, taking breaks between study sessions, and making time for exercise.
